Alaskans get their oil checks

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2001 The state of Alaska doled out oil trust fund checks on Wednesday, sending $1,850.28 into the pocketbooks of eligible Alaskans. The Alaska Permanent Fund was started 24 years ago and is drawn from the state's oil investment account. It is now worth $24.8 billion, of which $1.09 billion will be sent to residents.
