Conference focuses on welfare-to-work

The 17th annual Indian Child and Family Conference was held in Tempe, Arizona, this week and focused on welare-to-work and other family issues facing tribes.

A speaker yesterday urged tribes to develop creative welfare programs tailored to fit their needs. Eddie Brown, a professor of social work at Washington University in St. Louis, said tribes can restructure their programs but also have to watch out for political battles.
