Navajo Nation council approves gaming

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2001 By a vote of 45 to 17, the Navajo Nation council on Tuesday passed a resolution to allow gaming on tribal land. The provision would authorize the Navajo community of To'hajiilee to move forward with casino plans. Although officially part of the Navajo Reservation, the To'hajiilee community is located near the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. President Kelsey Begaye has previously vetoed gaming but according to a compromise where the casino won't sell alcohol, he won't reject the resolution. Get the Story:
