Pueblos push political power
OCTOBER 20, 2000

Like other tribes throughout the country, some of New Mexico's 19 Pueblos have become skilled at the political game and are getting more of their voices heard thanks to bigger bank accounts.

Stuwart Paisano, the 28-year-old Governor of Sandia Pueblo, says donations his tribe will make to candidates by the end of the year could total $100,000. They've contributed money to campaigns as far away as New York, where they donated money to First Lady Hillary Clinton, running against Representative Rick Lazio (R-NY)
