JANUARY 11, 2001 According to the New Mexico Council on Problem Gambling, 11 percent of callers to its gambling addiction hotline are Native American. The typical gambler, the Council says, is Hispanic, blue-collar, over 40, and has a debt of $25,000. Some 54 percent of callers altogether were Hispanic. The state has 11 tribally-owned casinos, four horse tracks with casinos, and a lottery. Get the Story:
