NOVEMBER 8, 2000

A coalition of Native American tribes who own the Native American Bancorporation may acquire the Blackfeet National Bank from the Blackfeet Tribe of Montana.

The Blackfeet National Bank was launched in 1987 by the tribe after the only bank on the reservation closed. But the bank has lost money in recent years, according to Leo Kennerly, the tribe's economic development leader.

Still, the bank is not in danger of failing. A merger would help the bank expand services.
