JANUARY 18, 2001 With expansion of Indian casinos ahead and towns nearest them complaining of negative impacts, new ways of distributing slot fund moneys are being suggested in Connecticut. One group has devised a formula that would send more money to communities impacted by the state's two casinos. Some town leaders haven't supported the formula, however. State lawmakers also submitted a bill suggesting funds be administered by a coalition of local governments in southeastern Connecticut. Casinos owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe are required by gaming compacts to give 25 percent of slot machine revenues to the state. Get the Story:
