FEBRUARY 14, 2001 The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that a Menominee woman who worked for another tribe has to pay state taxes because she is not a member of the tribe. Joan LaRock argued she shouldn't be forced to pay $588 plus interest in state taxes because she worked for the Oneida Tribe on their reservation. But the court disagreed and said the 1973 McClanahan v. State Tax Comm'n of Arizona Supreme Court decision only exempts Indians from state tax if they work for their own tribe, not another.
