Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland on Thursday said he supported a proposal to distribute more money to communities affected by the state's two tribal casinos.

The two tribal casinos contribute 25 percent of their slot revenues to the state as required by their compact. But the towns nearest the casinos of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe receive less than others because of the formula the state uses to distribute the money.

The two casinos are currently undergoing expansion. So legislators are proposing to give a greater portion of additional slot revenues to the host towns for the casinos. The host towns would divide $10 million of the expected $30 million among the communities.
