Pequot Tribe challenges tax payments

MARCH 27, 2001 The Mashanctucket Pequot Tribal Nation is challenging the tax assessments on properties of land it owns in North Stonington and wants the total bill reduced by about half. The tribe was assessed $13 million on 26 properties it owns itself or in holding companies. The tribe said the real bill should be $6.5 million. The tribe is usually the top or one of the top taxpayers in towns bordering its southeastern Connecticut reservation. Get Recent Town Taxpayer Data:
