APRIL 2, 2001

The Oneida Nation of New York last Thursday made an agreement in principle with the Mexican government to open casinos in Acapulco and Mazatlan.

The tribe made the deal, considered the first of its type, with a number of officials in Mexico, including the tourism director for the state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located, and the director general of economic development in Morelos, where Mazatlan is located.

A formal agreement will be signed this week, said Oneida representative Ray Halbritter. Oneida tribal official will travel to Mexico to make the deal complete, he added.
