Texas gaming bill nears House vote

APRIL 25, 2001 The Texas House on Tuesday tentatively approved a bill to legalize gaming on the state's three Indian reservations. The bill would affect three tribes: the Ysleta del Sur Tigua Tribe, the Kickapoo Tribe, and the Alabama-Coushatta. The Tigua Tribe's Speaking Rock Casino near El Paso has been targeted for shutdown by the state. The bill faces a final vote in the House today. Get the Story:
