APRIL 26, 2000 An inquiry into a Pottawatomie County land auction held April 11th is being sought by Governor Frank Keating. After the auction, John "Rocky" Barrett, Chairman of the Citizen Band of Potawatomis, came under attack by a non-native landowner for bidding on land that the Tribe also wanted to buy from the local conservation district. The disgruntled bidder claims that the Chairman was coaching the vice-Chairman, Linda Capps, who was also bidding on the same land on behalf of the tribe. Chairman Barrett has denied all allegations of coaching. Source: Land auction inquiry sought (The Daily Oklahoman 4/26)
