MAY 1, 2000 The Lac du Flambeau band of Ojibwe don't have to close their current casino in order to open a second one, says chairman Tom Maulson. According to Maulson, the gaming compact the tribe signed with the state of Wisconsin doesn't prohibit the tribe from opening up a second casino off reservation land. Governor Thompson said he will not agree to the Flambeau's $80 million casino proposal unless the tribe closes its Lake of the Torches casino.
