Okla. tribe considering Kansas casino

MAY 18, 2001

The Osage Nation is just one of a number of Oklahoma tribes considering opening up casinos in the neighboring state of Kansas.

The tribe will be conducting a study about opening a casino on lands it has purchased in Kansas. The tribe has bought more than 100 acres there.

Since the state of Oklahoma prohibits Vegas-style casinos, a number of tribes have looked to Kansas for gaming opportunities. But the state and tribes there have voiced opposition to the proposals, bringing and usually winning lawsuits against them.
