MAY 19, 2000

The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island could lose out on a casino in their proposed location in West Warwick, due to a previously negotiated legal agreement between owners of the property and a realty company.

Anti-gaming convenants were placed on the property in January 1999, a month before the the tribe and its partner, Boyd Gaming, announced a proposal for a casino.

Convenants are placed on land where there are no zoning laws, in order to control how the land is to be used.

The tribe can buy the convenants or move their casino to a different location.
