MAY 24, 2001

Arizona state officials and tribal leaders met this week in closed-door sessions to discuss new gaming compacts.

No concrete agreements, however, were produced and no follow up meetings have yet been scheduled. The compacts are to expire in 2003 and the state is facing pressure to take a share of casino profits but also from the racing industry who are trying to shut down tribal casinos.
