MAY 31, 2000 Three Ojibwe bands partnered together as the Four Feathers Casino Group and the city of Hudson, Wisconsin have reached an agreement over a long running casino proposal dispute. The city will drop appearances of objection to the group's proposed casino and send letters to both the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson stating their earlier positions on the casino were not intended to be viewed as oppoition. In 1995, Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt turned down the group's off-reservation plan, citing the city's opposition. The group filed a $175 lawsuit against the city soon after, claiming the city signed documents to receive money from the casino but then publicy voiced opposition to it. The city entered into mediation with the Lac Courte Oreilles, Red Cliff, and Mole Lake-Sokaogon after a court ruled the city negotiated in bad faith. Get the Story:
