Tribal gambling fund proposal dropped

MAY 9, 2001 A proposal to require Minnesota's 11 gaming tribes to donate money to compulsive gambling programs has been dropped in the state Legislature. Instead, the money would come from the Minnesota State Lottery. Up to $4 million would go to compulsive-gambling treatment and related activities. Tribes had opposed the fund, citing a threat to sovereignty. The Minnesota Indian Gaming Association contributes tribal money to compulsive gambling programs. Get the Story:
