Site won't be Pequot casino

JUNE 20, 2000 Paul B Eccard, the chairman of the board of Amalgamated Industries Inc which owns 328 acres next to Interstate 95 in Connecticut, said the site will not host a casino, despite an eight-year business relationship with the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation. JD DeMatteo, president and CEO of Amalgamated, has been a longtime financial backer of the tribe. In April, the Hartford Courant reported that casino mogul Donald Trump has options on 40 acres of land at the intersection of I-95 and Route 2 in Stonington. The Courant also reported that Trump and the tribe have been have been working together since 1996. The two publicly announced their partnership in 1999. Get the Story:
