N.Y. Senate ratifies Seneca compact

JUNE 22, 2001 The New York Senate voted 39 to 14 on Thursday to approve a tribal-state gaming compact with the Seneca Nation. Governor Pataki (R) negotiated the 14-year agreement with the tribe to open as many as three casinos in Niagra Falls, Buffalo, and on reservation land. A number of lawmakers were concerned about approving the deal because they had little details on it. The Assembly will consider the compact when it returns to work on Monday. Get the Story:
