Seneca leaders endorse gaming compact

JUNE 26, 2001 All but two of 19 Seneca Nation officials on Monday endorsed a 14-year gaming compact the tribe negotiated with New York Governor George Pataki (R). The tribe's 7,000 members will vote August 7 to accept or reject the agreement. The tribe also needs approval by the state Legislature and the federal government. A tribal member has filed suit against the tribe, alleging officials conducted negotiations with Pataki unethically. Bob Jones wants the tribal court to prevent the scheduled August vote. The two who did not sign a letter of endorsement were out of town, said a tribal spokesperson. Get the Story:
