The Minnesota Department of Administration wants to make public all audits conducted of tribal casinos but the Public Safety Department is fighting the decision.

Public Safety Commissioner Charlie Weaver believes making the audits public will make his job more difficult. He says withholding the information prevents criminal activity at casinos.

The Administration department released an opinion last month after Bill Lawrence, the publisher of Native American Press / Ojibwe News asked for them. Critics have accused Lawrence, who is the member of an anti-treaty rights organization, of being anti-tribal sovereignty.
