Housing economic grants awarded

A number of housing and economic development grants have been awarded to tribes in New Mexico, members of the state's Congressionald delegation reported on Monday.

Grants awarded through the Rural Housing and Economic Development Grant program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development:
  • $150,000 to the Pojoaque Pueblo Housing Corporation to meet housing needs on the reservation.
  • $150,000 to the San Juan Pueblo to establish a land-use plan, including the creation of a planning committee and hiring of a tribal planner to foster economic development and promote long-term stability
  • $150,000 to Zuni Pueblo to create a new technology division to seek federal contracts for data entry, call centers and scanning.
The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $154,000 grant to Jemez Pueblo to create more jobs.
