Battle brewing over Nipmuc casino

JUNE 8, 2001 Debate over a reported attempts by the Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts to seek land for a casino is affecting members of the tribe itself. Some members claim outsiders are dictating the tribe's actions. They also say they are being denied access to regular council meetings by leaders who haven't proved they are official members of the tribe. One alleged tribal council members who is opposed to the role of outside investors has provided documents to the Boston Globe which reportedly show Lakes Gaming has given the tribe $2 million to fund its government operations.
