Cuomo wants unions at Seneca casinos

TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2001 New York Democratic Governor candidate Andrew Cuomo on Monday said he wants to make sure unions are allowed to organize at casinos proposed by the Seneca Nation. Criticizing Governor George Pataki (R) for working with the tribe, Cuomo said any proposed gaming compact needs to include the concerns of unionized labor. A spokesperson for Pataki said unions do have a right to organize at casinos, an interpretation disputed by others. Democrats in the Assembly are holding up a bill that would give Pataki the right to finalize negotiations with the tribe. The agreement would cover casinos in Buffalo and Niagara Falls and possibly another on the tribe's reservation. Get the Story:
