JULY 12, 2000

The Torres-Martinez Band of Desert Cahuilla are revitalizing their economy with several projects. One is the $275 million power plant the tribe will host on their land.

The tribe is also planning on building a museum, gift shop, and community center in hopes to bring tourists to their arid reservation. The tribe is a $1 million grant to develop a mobile home park on the reservation, hoping to bring more workers to the reservation.

The grant came as part of a $21 million discrimination lawsuit against Hispanic farmworkers and authorities of Riverside County.
