Pequot Tribe drops casino proposal

TUESDAY, JULY 17, 2001 At a city council meeting last night, the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut dropped its proposal to develop a casino in Norwich. The move came after the council voted to oppose the casino. But the council later revoked the vote because there was no longer any official proposal on the table. The tribe is awaiting a final decision on its federal recognition petition. A decision is supposed to come in December but could be tied up in the courts for much longer. Get the Story:
