JULY 6, 2001 The Department of Housing and Urban Development is reviewing a program which allows teachers and police officers to buy homes at cheap prices after a preliminary audit revealed a number of abuses. A HUD interim audit released in February showed a number of violations of federal law in the Officer/Teacher Next Door Program. The program has been used by more than 3,800 officers and teachers to buy homes at half-price in economically depressed areas. Get the Report:
