WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2001

The Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe has yet to go public with its plans to open a casino in Massachusetts, but some lawmakers are already voicing opposition.

Addiction, state lottery revenues and moral questions are some of the issues being raised. The tribe, federally recognized since 1987, has pushed gaming in the past but has failed.

The tribe is working with the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, who helped open the new casino owned by Santa Clara Pueblo of New Mexico.
