AUGUST 14, 2000 Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community voters will decide September 5 whether or not to distribute profits from the tribes' Casino Arizona to tribal members. Although no exact figures are known, it is estimated that the casino brings in $600 million a year. The tribes' 6,200 members could get up to $34,000 a year if voters agree to a 35 percent share of the profits. Some say the government shouldn't be handing out money. Others feel the money can help members and families purchase necessities and reap in the benefits the wealth the government has solely enjoyed. Get the Story:
