THURSDAY, AUGUST 23, 2001 The Puyallup Tribe of Washington has put on hold the $4 million purchase of a bingo hall appraised at $1.27 million amid questions of financial impropriety. The hold comes a week after the tribal council had approved paying former chairwoman Roleen Hargrove for her defunct bingo hall. Hargrove is currently in bankruptcy proceedings but argues the deal is sound because it includes other benefits. Despite her financian insolvency, Hargrove has been placed on the board of the tribe's economic development corporation. All but one member of the old board has been fired, as have 10 staff members.
