Meeting held on Nipmuc recognition casino

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) held a forum on Wednesday night in Woodstock to discuss federal recognition and gaming.

The impteus for the meeitng is the pending status of the Nipmuc Nation of Massachusetts, who wants to open a casino in the region. North Stonington First Selectman Nicholas Mullane told the reported 500 in attendance that the casino opened the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has brought negative changes to his town.

The tribe's status is on hold pending review by Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb.
