Tribes may agree to share money withstate

SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 In a confidential letter written to Arizona Governor Jane Hull, the Arizona Indian Gaming Association said its member tribes are willing to share a percentage of its revenue, but not the 7 percent the state is seeking. Compacts made in 1993 with the state's 15 gaming tribes expire in 2003. At the time, revenue sharing was not considered but the state now wants a cut of the proceeds. Negotiations between the state and tribes are just beginning. The tribes say they would be willing to share less than 7 percent, because they already contribute money to charity. Get the Story:
