SEPTEMBER 22, 2000

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma has filed suit against the federal government, hoping to rid themselves of having to negotiate a gaming compact with the state of Kansas.

The lawsuit alleges that the Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan), other members of the Kansas Congressional delegation, and Governor Bill Graves have been blocking illegaly legislation that would allow the tribe to build a casino in the state.

Although the tribe has been renovating a site in Kansas City in preparation for a casino, they say they'd rather open one elsewhere. But they have been hampered in their efforts by the state and four Kansas gaming tribes who oppose the Wyandotte's casino.
