SEPTEMBER 5, 2000 The Narragansett Casino Coalition, proponents of a casino proposed by the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island, are planning a statewide campaign in hopes of raising support for the plan. In June, the House Finance Committee rejected legislation that would have placed the issue before state voters on the November ballot. The tribe is required to abide by state law concerning gambling due to a clause in their land clains settlement act imposing state jurisdiction on tribal land. Get the Story:
