WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2001

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut hopes to expand its casino, a tribal official told The New London Day.

Treasurer Michael Thomas was not specific but said the gaming market still hasn't been fully tapped. A nearby casino, owned by the Mohegan Tribe, has been undergoing a $1 billion expansion.

Thomas also said the tribe's offer to limit its land-into-trust applications to 880 acres for the next 35 years is off the table unless three local towns resume negotiations. Two of the towns dropped out, saying they weren't happy with the tribe's proposal.
