FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2002

The Maine Legislature is being asked to set up a task force to assess the impact of a tribal casino on the state's economy.

A bill proposed yesterday would set up the 14-member commission, which would include one tribal representative. It comes after the Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe shelved plans to open a casino.

The tribes intend to push the casino next year.
