State tribe proposes bingo hall

FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2002 A tribe recognized by the state of New York has proposed to build a high-stakes bingo hall in the Catskills. The Unkechaug Indian Nation is currently based on Long Island. The tribe is planning to lay claim to an old shopping mall to get its hands on the land in question. Since the tribe is not federally recognized, lawmakers and local officials are questioning how the deal would work. Get the Story:
