Russian leader wants Native ties

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2001 Roman Abramovich, the new governor of the Russian state of Chukotka, wants to maintain ties between Alaska and his region, where 20 percent of the poupulation is Eskimo, Chukchi or other Russian Native. Many in Chukotka have ties to Alaska Natives. But the previous governor had wanted to limit contact with the Western world, said observers and researchers. Get the Story:
