Calif. Senator to oppose Ashcroft

JANUARY 11, 2001 Calling Attorney General nominee John Ashcroft's views on civil rights, abortion, gun control, and environmental protection "far outside the mainstream of our nation," Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif) on Wednesday announced she would vote against confirming the conservative former Missouri Senator. Other Democrats are lessening their support of Ashcroft. But Republican leader Trent Lott (Miss) predicted Ashcroft would be confirmed. Get the Story:
