Presidential election update

Did your turkey day meal put you to sleep, causing you to miss the latest in the ongoing debate over the Presidential race? Have no fear, here is an update on the recent happenings.

WHAT GORE DID:
After the Miami-Dade canvassing board on Wednesday voted to stop its manual recount, Vice Presidential Al Gore asked the Florida state Supreme Court to force them to restart.

But the court turned him down on Thursday. In response, his lawyers said they will contest the Miami-Dade vote count altogether and that Gore won't concede the election. The county plans on certifying its old tally, leaving Gore without any added votes there.

WHAT BUSH DID:
George W. Bush petitioned the United States Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking to overturn Tuesday's Florida Supreme Court decision which set a Sunday deadline for the completion of manual recounts. Gore in response on Thursday asked the Court to reject Bush because the issue is a state, not a federal one.

The Court, in general, has given more deference to state's rights in recent cases, including Indian law ones.

WHAT CHENEY DID:
Bush's running mate ate turkey, continuing his stay in George Washington hospital in Washington, DC. He might be released today. His mild heart attack has resurfaced questions on his future health should he become the Vice President.

WHAT THE COUNTIES DID:
Broward County continued counting votes, focusing on "questionable" ones. Gore has gained 225 votes, according to unofficial results. Palm Beach took the day off and will resume today.
