NOVEMBER 9, 2000 Chief Chad Smith of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma welcomed the election of tribal member Brad Carson to the House of Representatives. Smith said they expect Carson to be an advocate for Indian issues, including those of the Cherokee Nation. Carson has pledged to support a land reform bill affecting members of the tribe.
