Populations at reservations throughout the country increased, according to Census 2000 data released last month.

Since then, various reports have looked at why some reservations saw growth. One explanation is simple growth: the Indian population on the whole grew by 26 percent over the past decade.

Another is is the increase of economic development and other opportunities. Indian gaming is cited as a significant factor in bringing people to reservations.

Another is a desire to reconnect with one's family, history, and culture.
