The Massachusetts Ethics Commission on Thursday filed an order to show cause why State Rep. Philip Travis solicited donations to benefit the Wampanoag Tribe.

The Commission says that Travis, while Chairman of the Joint Committee on Banks and Banking, called several banks and asked them to make a donation so the tribe could buy some land. One bank donated $10,000.

The Commission also alleges Travis solicited donations for another constituent.

There are two Wampanoag Tribes in Massachusetts. The Mashpee is state recognized, while Gay Head on Martha's Vineyard is federally recognized.
