Leaders and members of tribes in California say the latest figures from the Census 2000, along with increased enrollment, show that more Americans are interested in Indian heritage.

On the Agua Caliente Reservation in Palm Springs, the Indian population grew by 61 percent over the past decade. Other reservations in the state and throughout the country showed increases as well.
