Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, is also home to a large number of American Indians and Alaska Natives from tribes throughout the country.

The city falls behind Anchorage, Alaska, and Tulsa, Oklahome in terms of concentration of American Indians in large cities. Most are from the Navajo Nation or from the state's 19 Pueblos.

The Census tract with the largest concentration of of American Indians is on the city's west side, near the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI). Tracts in the city's southeast heights, location of an Indian health clinic and the elementary school, middle school and high school with the highest concentrations of Indian students.

Many Pueblo residents of Albuquerque frequently travel back to their respective reservations on weekends or for tribal ceremonies and holidays.
