Poll: Approval rating of FBI drops

MAY 22, 2001 The American public's impression of the FBI has dropped dramatically over the past five years, according to a Washington Post / ABC poll released today. In 1995, just after the Oklahoma City bombing, just 9 percent of respondents had an unfavorable impression of the FBI. Now, with the revelation that the FBI failed to provide over 3,000 pages of documents to convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh, the unfavorable impression has risen to 35 percent. However, most are still confident that the FBI can do its job. Some 54 percent indicated "somewhat" confident while another 28 percent indicated "very." Get the Story:
