Outgoing GOP leader blasts Jeffords

MAY 30, 2001 On a radio program co-hosted by Iran Contra crony Oliver North, Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) on Tuesday criticized newly Independent colleague Jim Jeffords (Vt.) for staging a "coup of one" last week. Lott said no one was to blame for Jeffords ditching the GOP except, well, Jeffords. Lott is promising to push Bush's conservative agenda through Congress despite being forced to hand over control to Democrats who disagree with the President on the budget, the environment, political and judicial nominees, and a number of other issues.
