Tribes who once celebrated victories with Los Angeles mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa spent more than $300,000 on radio ads and other campaign activities to defeat him.

The Soboba Band of Mission Indians contributed $100,000 to pay for campaign mailers critical of Villaraigosa. The Morongo Band spent $200,000 on radio ads. The funds were reportedly solicited through the helps of a longtime support of Villaraigosa challenger City Atty. James K. Hahn.
